Direct drive folder

2011. After completing Jana’s Kolko, I aimed at more compact folders we can easily pack in the aeroplane suitcases without dismantling them. I tried unsuccessfully a front wheel direct drive with 16” (305) wheels small enough to fit into a suitcase and still have good touring gearing. I approximated Giatex sliding frame bike. The sliding mechanism worked but not the direct drive. It just had too much pedal-steer interference. I suspect it was due to small wheel. I tried an alternative set up with fixed BB and conventional steering but without over fork idlers. It did not work either as the chain was too short, unlike on my D’Viant.
